The Nutcracker March


Situation
The Downtown Seattle Association’s (DSA) mission is to champion a healthy, vibrant urban core. To maintain this exciting urban center, the DSA manages the Metropolitan Improvement District which provides maintenance, safety, marketing and business development programs for Downtown Seattle.

The DSA hired Team Soapbox to assist with a public awareness campaign.

Strategy
The DSA and a group of local business sponsors decided that a festive, public art project would help enhance the atmosphere of Downtown Seattle during the holiday season. Thus, whimsical holiday attractions and art auctions like “Ponies on Parade” and “The Nutcracker March” were born. The displays benefited a local non-profit, Northwest Center, and enhanced the holiday experience for shoppers and visitors.

Team Soapbox worked on message development and media relations to create buzz about the art and events to motivate people to do their holiday shopping downtown.

Results
Team Soapbox was able to acquire multiple media hits that ultimately gained the DSA the public interest it was looking for to bring a sense of whimsy and the holiday spirit to downtown shopping.
